Remember the Vivo X21 UD, the Vivo smartphone with under-display fingerprint sensor that was first launched in China two months ago? We have a strong feeling that it’s going to be offered in the Philippines soon.

In an email sent to us to schedule the retrieval of a review unit, the executive handling the company’s account wrote, “After the successful Vivo V9 campaign, Vivo continues to innovate as it brings you another BIG this quarter. Are you ready to unlock the future?”

In a follow-up email, he said, “Something eXciting is coming from Vivo … We are all excited to unlock the future!”

Take note of the phrase “unlock the future” and the capitalization of the letter X. And think of the times the Chinese manufacturer has used the slogan. Vivo has done that only for its devices with on-screen fingerprint scanner.

The executive could not have referred to the X20 Plus UD, Vivo’s first mobile to have the feature. That was unveiled months ago, in January 2018. So the more likely choice is the Vivo X21 UD, which was announced on March 20 in China.

The phone got its first global unveiling in Singapore early this month. We understand that it will also be launched in India on May 29.

To give you a snapshot of what the Vivo X21 UD offers, we’re embedding here the comparison chart we created when the smartphone was made official on the same day the regular X21 and the OPPO R15 and R15 Dream Mirror Edition were launched just hours apart in March.

We are excited about this because if ever, it’s going to be the first time that Vivo releases something from its premium X series in the Philippines. And one that has fingerprint-sensing technology built into the screen itself, and not the home button, at that.
