Last year’s Xiaomi Mi A1 Android One phone is based on the Mi 5X. They look the same, their specs are the same… only the software is different. So it’s just right to assume that the pure Android version of the Mi 6X will be called the Xiaomi Mi A2. And given the developments in the past 24 hours, the upcoming device’s launch is imminent.

First, a prototype of the smartphone was detailed by Spanish tech enthusiasts collectively called PimpiTronic in an 11-minute hands-on video uploaded to YouTube. It confirms that the Mi A2 has the same design and internals as the Xiaomi Mi 6X, though the former runs stock Android.

Unfortunately, the video has been taken down, and no one was able to take many screenshots of it, including the part where the duo showed sample photos captured on the Xiaomi Mi A2. It seems that only the two images you see above got saved.

In our search for sites and people who may have saved a copy of the clip, we stumbled upon this tweet.

Could the listing be real? Digitec is one of the biggest online retailers in Switzerland, and it already lists the Xiaomi Mi A2 on its site. Apparently, the smartphone will be available in the country starting August 8. Here are the alleged prices:

  • Xiaomi Mi A2 4GB/32GB: SFr. 289 or roughly P15,466 in Philippine pesos and $290 in U.S. dollars
  • Xiaomi Mi A2 4GB/64GB: SFr. 329 or P17,606 / $330
  • Xiaomi Mi A2 6GB/128GB: SFr. 369 or P19,747 /$370
