The Xiaomi Redmi 6A, the company’s most affordable 18:9 entry yet, is set to go on sale in the Philippines tomorrow, July 23, alongside the Redmi 6. And to sweeten the deal even more, Xiaomi Philippines has announced that customers will be able to purchase the Redmi 6A online at a lower price than previously reported — for a limited time.

Flash sale ends at 12 p.m. on July 23

To entice early adopters and maybe drive attention away from other new and equally affordable choices such as the ASUS ZenFone Live L1, the price of Xiaomi’s so-called “entry-level smartphone king” has been lowered to P4,990 (roughly $94) from P5,290 ($100).

So if you’re thinking about cheaping out and getting the Redmi 5A instead, we urge you to reconsider. The Xiaomi Redmi 6A is a major improvement in all key areas, and you’ll be happier with the better performance the upgrade to MediaTek’s octa-core Helio A22 offers.

The extra money gets you a design that has seen much progress from last year and 2GB RAM and 16GB of expandable memory, plus a bigger and taller screen and a faster and more efficient processor in the Helio A22.

We’ve seen firsthand what the Helio P22, the Helio A22’s close cousin, can do both in terms of real-world and gaming situations. And you know what? We have come away pretty impressed with how fast and responsive it is for its price. Having said that, we expect positive surprises from the A22.

The Xiaomi Redmi 6A runs Android 8.1 Oreo with the company’s heavily modified MIUI interface for international devices on top. It features 13- and 5-megapixel cameras at the rear and on the front. Powering the phone is a 3,000mAh power cell that charges over a microUSB port at the bottom.
