As reported last month, Huawei has introduced fresh colorways for its flagship P20 series at the IFA 2018 trade show in Berlin. Two of the new color options are exclusive to the Huawei P20 Pro and add real leather in place of shiny, glossy glass.

Additionally, the leather-backed P20 Pro models get 8GB RAM and 256GB of native storage, offering a substantial upgrade from the regular Huawei P20 Pro’s 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. They can be had in a choice of black or brown leather that also has a gold-colored metal frame.

Of course, we have seen a handful of phones with leather backs in the past, but this is the first time Huawei has launched a phone incorporating the durable and natural material. It remains to be seen how the leather will age and change character over time, but it certainly isn’t for every smartphone buyer.

The non-leather finishes are available on the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro and are officially called Morpho Aurora, which features black-to-turquoise gradient coloring, and Pearl White, which shows touches of yellow and pink from certain angles. The latter also sports a rose-gold trim to match its color-shifting glass panel.

The new gradient-hued phones still come with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of memory on the P20 and 6GB RAM and 128GB memory on the P20 Pro.

Huawei says these variants will go on sale from September 5, with the Morpho Aurora and Pearl White P20 and P20 Pro priced at €649 (around P40,397 or $754) and €899 (P55,958 or $1,045), respectively. The Genuine Leather edition of the Huawei P20 Pro will sell for €999 (P62,182 or $1,161) when it arrives at retail on the same date.
