Smart-exclusive OPPO A71K launches in PH for P5,988 or $111

OPPO Philippines, in collaboration with telecom giant Smart Communications, today unveiled the OPPO A71K for the local market. And if the name sounds familiar, that’s because the company launched the OPPO A71 (2018) in the country not too long ago for P7,990, or roughly $148 (though the phone currently retails at P6,990 or $129).

The OPPO A71K, however, comes in at a more palatable price tag of P5,988 ($111) and will be bundled with an LTE-ready SIM card (yes, the phone is compatible with Smart’s LTE networks nationwide), which can be exchanged for either a Sun Cellular or TNT SIM card if you already have a Smart mobile number. It goes without saying this phone won’t be available anywhere else besides Smart stores.

Inside, the phone is identical to the A71 (2018) handset the company launched earlier — which is actually a good thing, as it features a decently capable Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 mated to 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage that can be expanded using an SD card.

In fact, the OPPO A71K is one of the cheapest phones powered by a Snapdragon 450 in the Philippines. The inclusion of a 3,000mAh battery for all-day battery life (perhaps more if we’re talking about light to moderate usage) is a welcome bonus.

The OPPO A71K features a 5.2-inch screen.

Other specs include a 5.2-inch, 1,280 x 720 LCD screen and 13- and 5-megapixel rear and selfie cameras. The latter has f/2.4 aperture lens and supports OPPO’s artificial intelligence-enhanced beauty option, as well as face unlock for faster unlocking without keying in a PIN or password. The phone also runs ColorOS 3.2 software based on Android 7.1 Nougat.

One caveat, though: The OPPO A71K, unlike the A71 (2018) model, isn’t bundled with a set of earphones in the retail box, so you’ll have to purchase it separately.
