Can’t spring enough cash for the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 or Honor Magic 2 slider phones? You might be interested to learn that Lenovo today launched the Z5 Pro, which is not only cheaper, but has a higher screen-to-body ratio than its full-screen competition.

In fact, it’s been claimed that the phone’s OLED display covers roughly 95 percent of the front panel — the highest so far in the industry. For comparison, the OPPO Find X boasts a ratio just below 94 percent. A higher number indicates there’s more screen real estate and thinner bezels all around.

Pricing for the Lenovo Z5 Pro in China has been set at ¥1,998 (P15,337 or $288) for 6GB RAM and 64GB of native storage. Bumping up the storage to 128GB brings the price to ¥2,298 (P17,639 or $331). Its availability is set for November 11. That said, good luck getting it on launch day at its actual retail price; it’s ridiculously cheap for what it offers.

The sliding screen measures 6.39 inches and pushes 2,340 x 1,080 pixels at an extra-tall aspect ratio of 19.5:9. More importantly, it’s got fingerprint scanning built directly into the panel for convenient unlocking when resting the phone face up on a table or any flat surface.

Pushing the Lenovo Z5 Pro’s screen down reveals two selfie cameras with 16- and 8-megapixel sensors, as well as an infrared sensor for accurate facial recognition. The back-facing cameras are 16 and 24 megapixels with an f/1.8 aperture for clearer pictures in dark settings.

There’s no Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 under the hood — which isn’t surprising given its accessible price point. But it’s powered by Snapdragon 710, the same chipset inside the likes of the OPPO R17 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 8 SE.

Having said that, the Lenovo Z5 Pro should still chew through most apps you throw at it, with the exception of a few demanding games. The 3,350mAh battery leaves a bit to be desired but supports quick charging over a USB-C connection.
