Word has it that Vivo is working on an APEX or a (proper) NEX successor with a never-before-seen design, with a release planned sometime in 2019. Code-named The Waterdrop, it might feature an all-glass black and rounded aesthetics based on leaked images that we’ve seen.

Recently, Vivo Philippines posted a teaser of the upcoming device on social media. On the image are the words “Natural Perfection” with a date that reads January 24, 2019, indicating a global unveiling scheduled next week. Unfortunately, the teaser itself doesn’t show the phone at all, but it does strongly hint at the announcement of a waterdrop-style phone.

There’s also a chance, however small, that all this is to prep for the international release of the Vivo NEX Dual Display phone which debuted last year in China, though we seriously doubt it. Especially considering that at about the same time last year, Vivo showcased the APEX concept phone with a bezel-less design and a fingerprint sensor tucked under the screen.

The question now could be: Will the Vivo Waterdrop ever find its way in the Philippines and many other markets? Recall that the Vivo NEX was never officially released here, despite murmurs that it would eventually land on our shores. Perhaps this future Vivo flagship will change that. We’re crossing our fingers.
