HMD Global just announced the affordable Nokia 2.3 at an event in Cairo, Egypt. It is priced at €109 (around P6,147 or $121).

(Update, January 25: It has been released in the Philippines! Read Nokia 2.3 now available in PH.)

This next-gen Nokia 2 phone has a 6.2-inch HD+ screen with a waterdrop notch for the 5-megapixel front camera. On the back, we get a dual-camera setup with a 13-megapixel primary lens and a secondary 2-megapixel depth sensor. Some photography features in the Nokia 2.3 include Portrait mode and Recommended shot.

Available in Cyan Green, Sand, and Charcoal colors, the back is covered with a 3D nano-coating similar to the one on the Nokia 1 Plus. Besides having a volume rocker and a power button, the handset also gets a physical Google Assistant button.

Under the hood, the Nokia 2.3 runs on a MediaTek Helio A22 processor paired with 2GB of RAM and 32GB expandable storage. And while it ships with Android 9 Pie out of the box, Nokia promises that the smartphone will receive Android 10 and three years of security updates. It’s an Android One device, after all.

HMD has been consistent with bringing the latest Android operating system to its devices. So, we expect Android 10 to land on the Nokia 2.3 sooner than later.

If you listen to the FM radio still, you can with this handset. The Nokia 2.3 still has a 3.5mm audio jack. And while there is no fingerprint sensor, it supports face unlock. Surprisingly, it also supports Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity.

Expect to get a lot of mileage out of the 4,000mAh battery, which supports Google’s Adaptive Battery and promises a two-day battery life. It still charges via microUSB, though.

The Nokia 2.3 is expected to go on sale in mid-December in other countries. We don’t know yet if the handset will make its way to the Philippines. But with its wallet-friendly price, we expect it might launch in the country.
