Say hello to Vivo‘s latest X series flagships! The manufacturer has launched the Vivo X80 and Vivo X80 Pro in China.

(Update, July 2: The vivo X80 Pro turns out to be the best camera phone we have used in the first half of 2022. We show why here!)

(Update, June 9: These are the respective prices and freebies of the vivo X80 and vivo X80 Pro in the Philippines!)

Vivo also confirmed that the X70 successors will debut on international markets May 8. The company’s domestic arm has yet to confirm if the X80 and X80 Pro is going to be sold in the Philippines as well, but there’s a good chance that at least the regular X80 will make it here based on Vivo’s local release cycle.

Last October, the Vivo X70 5G was priced at P34,999, or roughly $665, in the Philippines at launch. The top-end X70 Pro and X70 Pro Plus were no-shows in the country, though.

In China, the Vivo X80 series will go on sale beginning April 29 at the following prices:

  • Vivo X80 Pro (Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 variant)
    • 8GB/128GB: ¥5,499 ($838)
    • 12GB/256GB: ¥5,999 ($915)
    • 12GB/512GB: ¥6,699 ($1,021)
  • Vivo X80 Pro (MediaTek Dimensity 9000 variant)
    • 12GB/256GB: ¥5,999 ($915)
    • 12GB/512GB: ¥6,699 ($1,021)
  • Vivo X80
    • 8GB/128GB: ¥3,699 ($564)
    • 8GB/256GB: ¥3,999 ($607)
    • 12GB/256GB: ¥4,399 ($671)
    • 12GB/512GB: ¥4,899 ($747)

Two things that we found to be curious: First, Vivo skipped the Plus model this year, and number two, the X80 Pro will have identically priced variants powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Dimensity 9000. That last bit might not matter a whole lot, especially considering both are neck-and-neck in terms of overall performance. Having a choice is better than not getting any.

As for the camera hardware, the Vivo X80 Pro sports a 50-megapixel Samsung Isocell GNV main image sensor with ZEISS lens on the back, alongside an ultra-wide camera with a 48-megapixel sensor, a 12-megapixel telephoto camera, and an 8-megapixel periscope shooter offering 5x and 60x optical and digital zoom. It also comes with the brand’s new V1 Plus imaging chip for better low-light performance, particularly on the main, ultra-wide, and selfie cameras.

Vivo X80 series

A Samsung-made 6.78-inch E5 LTPO 2.0 AMOLED screen with QHD+ resolution, a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, and an ultrasonic fingerprint reader underneath the display; a 4,700mAh battery that supports 80-wired and 50-watt wireless fast charging; IP68 dust and water protection; and a VC cooling chamber round out the key specs.

The Vivo X80, on the other hand, is also equipped with a Dimensity 9000 5G chip, but lacks a Snapdragon option. Its E5 AMOLED panel isn’t of the LTPO 2.0 variety, but still offers a 120Hz refresh rate to go along with an advertised 1,500 nits of peak brightness and full DCI-P3 coverage. Other notable specs include a 4,500mAh battery that retains the 80-watt charging standard of the Pro model and a 50-megapixel Sony IMX866 primary sensor — which the standard X80 debuts.
