As expected, POCO today announced the latest entries to its M series of affordable smartphones comprising the POCO M5 and higher-priced POCO M5s.

According to the Xiaomi sub-brand, its two new offerings are aimed at “entertainment-hungry users,” with the M5s being marketed to offer an all-around entertainment experience alongside a capable camera, an AMOLED screen, and a long-lasting battery.

In the Philippines, the POCO M5 is priced at P9,499 (around $167) and P10,499 ($184) for the 4GB/64GB and 6GB/128GB configuration options, respectively. Available in Black, Green, and Yellow, the phone is exclusive to e-commerce channels. Early adopters can buy the 4GB/64GB and 6GB/128GB models for just P7,399 ($130) and P8,799 ($155) from September 7 via POCO’s flagship store on Lazada.

Prices for the European market

Another online-exclusive model, the POCO M5s in Grey, White, and Blue will only be sold on POCO’s Shopee store. Locally, the handset has a suggested retail price of P9,999 ($176) and P10,899 ($191) for the 4GB/64GB and 6GB/128GB configurations, respectively. If you’re interested, you can purchase both editions at discounted prices of P8,599 ($151) and P9,999 ($176) beginning September 7 via Shopee.

Personally, if you’re after faster day-to-day performance and a smoother gaming experience, we think the MediaTek Helio G99-powered POCO M5 is the better fit for your pocket and wallet. However, if gaming is not your priority and you would rather have a more vibrant display, to go along with a faster-charging battery and sharper cameras on the front and back, the POCO M5s is likely the better pick.
