POCO super fans, take note: The Xiaomi sub-brand today confirmed the global launch date for its upcoming smartphone series.
(Update, September 5: The POCO M5 and POCO M5s have launched globally! Check out their prices in the Philippines and Europe here.)
According to the event invite, the date to circle is September 5, with the new POCO M5 and POCO M5s scheduled to be presented via an online event. Interestingly, POCO’s official handle for India only shows the POCO M5 in the teaser, suggesting the M5s’ absence from the Indian launch.
Details have been elusive on what both phones will potentially bring to the table, although reports are saying that MediaTek’s mid-tier Helio G95 and Helio G99 4G chipsets could power the M5 and M5s.
As per current rumors, it’s more likely that the M5 will ship with a Helio G99 chip inside. POCO India also shared an image on Twitter which suggests the vanilla model might sport the Helio G99, plus a leather-like finish on its rear panel.
The M5 is likewise rumored to sport a 6.8-inch FHD+ LCD display alongside a 5,000mAh battery that supports 33-watt fast cable charging and Android 12-based MIUI 13 on top. It may arrive in three memory configurations: 4GB RAM paired with 64GB of storage, 4GB/128GB, and 6GB/128GB.
The POCO M5s, on the other hand, will reportedly be a rebranded Redmi Note 10s, which packs a Helio G95 SoC under the hood and offers up to 6GB RAM and 128GB storage.
