Realme tops PH smartphone-brand rankings in Q4 2022, full-year 2022

Market-research firm Canalys’ latest smartphone-vendor ranking report for the Philippine market shows that Realme ended 2022 as the country’s No. 1 manufacturer in the category. Still.

The BBK Electronics brand topped the charts both in the fourth quarter of 2022 and the full 12 months last year, making it the top smartphone company locally for two consecutive years — a feat for a brand that entered the market only in Q4 2018.

The news couldn’t have come at a better time; it comes on the heels of Realme’s announcement of the Realme 10 Pro Plus and Realme 10 Pro 5G handsets’ launch date in the Philippines.

Two manufacturers bucked the trend in a quarter that saw top brands’ market share fall by as much as 60% year on year. Realme and second-placer OPPO achieved annual growth of 4% and 16%, respectively. The smartphone shipments of Transsion Holdings, Samsung, and Vivo, on the other hand, declined YoY.

In Q4 2021, Realme, Transsion, and Samsung were the three vendors in the top 5 to have grown annually — with the mother brand of Infinix Mobile and Tecno Mobile experiencing the highest growth at 228%.

The full year saw Realme capturing 21% of the local market share. Unfortunately, former second-placer Vivo did not figure in the ranking; it was edged out by Transsion, OPPO, Samsung, and Xiaomi.

Recall that in 2021, the top 5 spots were occupied by Realme, Vivo, OPPO, Samsung, and Xiaomi — in that order.
