Samsung‘s Galaxy A series stands for meaningful relationships, self-expression, and creativity — the same things that its target market, the Gen Z, values. And to help the core consumers live out their passion, as the company says, it has added two more members to the lineup.

(Update, March 30: Our review of the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G is up!)

Meet the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G and Samsung Galaxy A34 5G. Both are now official globally. Even better for the brand’s fans in the Philippines, the devices are already up for preorder in the country.

The more accessible of the two, the Galaxy A34 5G, is priced at P19,990 (around $364) for the 8GB/128GB model and P21,990 ($401) for the version with double the storage at 256GB. The Galaxy A54 5G’s 8GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB configurations, on the other hand, cost P24,990 ($455) and P26,990 ($492), respectively.

But here’s the deal: You can get a free storage upgrade to 256GB if you buy any of the two smartphones during the preorder period, which starts today, March 15, and ends March 30. That means for a limited time, you can own the variant with the higher memory configuration at the price of the base model. Samsung is throwing in a free travel adapter, too, giving you total savings worth P2,949 ($54).

Similarities and differences

We at Revü had our first look at the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G and Samsung Galaxy A34 5G days ago, and one thing that immediately struck us? It’s that the design identity is so Samsung, so Galaxy, especially with the minimalist rear-camera housing. In fact, the two can be mistaken for each other at first glance. How do you tell them apart? The A54 5G’s back panel is glossy, while the other has a prism pattern. Up front, the more premium of the duo gets a punch-hole cutout — or an Infinity-O — at the top center of the screen. And the A34 5G has a waterdrop-style notch — or an Infinity-U.

…for the other

Like its predecessors, the two smartphones focus on delivering high-quality photography and videography for content creators. The Samsung Galaxy A54 5G boasts a 50-megapixel triple-rear-camera system with optical image stabilization or OIS and a 32-megapixel selfie shooter, whereas the Samsung Galaxy A34 5G makes use of a 48-megapixel main sensor and a 13-megapixel front-facing one. Expect features like auto framing, auto night, enhanced camera focus, video digital image stabilization, enhanced photo/GIF remaster, and enhanced object eraser.

Both devices are equipped with a 120Hz Super AMOLED display as well. Each of the screen has 1,000 nits of brightness, Vision Booster, an FHD+ resolution, and eye-protection features. Just keep in mind that the A34 5G’s display is bigger at 6.6 inches; the other model is more compact.

The two phones pack the same 5,000mAh battery with 25-watt fast-charging support, too. Underneath, though? The Galaxy A54 5G is powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 1380 — the first device to use the recently announced chipset. The more affordable Galaxy, on the other hand, is based on a MediaTek Dimensity 1080 processor.

There are other things to take note of here: The newly launched products are rated IP67; ship with the latest One UI 5.1; can be updated to the most recent Android OS four times and get five-year security updates; and use recycled plastic for the side keys and SIM trays and recycled BIO materials for the cover. You can find the comparison sheet below to know more about the smartphones and decide for yourself if you want to get any of them. We suggest that you wait for our review of the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G if you’re really still on the fence about getting one.
