When HONOR Philippines launched its Win-a-Benz promo alongside the HONOR 600 Series earlier this year, the grand prize was exactly what it sounded like: a brand-new Mercedes-Benz EQA 250 EV. The nationwide campaign was designed to push the smartphone lineup, and it evidently worked, driving excitement and contributing to a strong local reception for the HONOR 600 Pro and HONOR 600. But on July 21, the company officially awarded the luxury electric vehicle to a customer whose winning strategy was straightforward.
The grand prize went to John Kenneth Gervacio. What makes his win particularly interesting is the sheer contrast to the brand’s previous major giveaway. When HONOR raffled off a Tesla Cybertruck earlier this year, the grand winner secured the prize by purchasing 10 units of the HONOR X9d 5G. Gervacio, on the other hand, bought exactly one phone.
He lined up at SM Mall of Asia during the device’s first-day sale to claim his preorder. We heard from a friend at HONOR Philippines that the handset was actually purchased as a gift for his girlfriend. Whatever the case, that single transaction was all it took to swap a standard mall receipt for the keys to a premium EV.
