We’re on the ground in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where HUAWEI just pulled the curtain back on the global versions of its latest photography-first flagships.
Front and center are the HUAWEI Pura 90s Pro Max and HUAWEI Pura 90s Pro, the two devices leading the brand’s most aggressive push yet to claw back its place in the high-end smartphone arena. And for those waiting at home, there’s good news: The HUAWEI Pura 90s Series is officially headed to the Philippines this August.
The company has adjusted the branding for international markets, shifting from “Pura 90” in China to “Pura 90s” globally. Alongside the name change, the updated models reintroduce 5G support for global variants.

HUAWEI Pura 90s Pro Max
The HUAWEI Pura 90s Pro Max commands attention with a striking aesthetic, featuring the industry’s first dual-tone gradient mid-frame on the Orange Ocean variant — and an imposing rear camera system. That island houses one of the phone’s biggest selling points: a 200-megapixel Ultra Large Sensor Telephoto Camera.
Armed with a 1/1.28-inch RYYB sensor, the Max is built to keep zoom shots clean where rivals falter. HUAWEI pairs the hardware with a Kirin ISP and proprietary pixel-binning, holding detail steady even at 20x — whether you’re shooting stills or rolling telephoto video. And with CIPA 7.0 stabilization smoothing out handheld shake, zooming in feels less like a gamble and more like a flex.
HUAWEI layers in AI tools meant to act like a built-in photo assistant: AI Composition for framing, AI De-Glare to erase reflections, and AI Move to reposition subjects with a tap.
Beyond the camera, the HUAWEI Pura 90s Pro Max packs a 6,000mAh battery with 100-watt SuperCharge, plus the brand’s latest Kunlun Glass that cuts reflections by 70% and boosts scratch resistance 16x. Drop resistance? Up 25x.
In Europe, this camera beast comes in at €1,149 (₱80,852 or $1,312) for 12GB + 256GB and €1,299 (₱91,393 or $1,484) for 12GB + 512GB.

HUAWEI Pura 90s Pro
The standard Pro isn’t just a sidekick. It shares the premium design language but leans into a breezier, vacation-inspired palette: Guava Soda, Orange Soda, Coconut White, and Mulberry Black.
The camera system swaps in a 50-megapixel Ultra Lighting Macro Telephoto with a wide f/2.1 aperture. Its standout trick is a 5cm minimum focusing distance that delivers sharp macro shots, paired with 4x optical and 8x optical-quality zoom for distant subjects. Battery life matches the Max variant at 6,000mAh, supported by 66-watt wired and 50-watt wireless charging, while its sibling pushes wireless speeds up to 80 watts.
In Europe, the HUAWEI Pura 90s Pro is priced at €899 (₱63,299 or $1,027) for the 12GB + 256GB model and €1,049 (₱73,863 or $1,198) for the 12GB + 512GB variant.

We’ll have more to say once we stress-test these devices further here in Kuala Lumpur and back in Metro Manila. But make no mistake, the keynote felt like HUAWEI throwing everything it has at its new Pura lineup. Cameras, batteries, glass, charging — nothing is left on the table. It’s the technology giant swinging for the fences, aiming to reclaim its heavyweight crown. Stay tuned for our full review, where we’ll find out if the HUAWEI Pura 90s Pro Max and HUAWEI Pura 90s Pro can live up to the spectacle.
Interesting colors!
