A legitimate mechanical camera upgrade and the A20 Pro

So, what are you actually paying for? It’s not just the 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera; this year, Apple is introducing a mechanical variable aperture. Apple engineered a system using six laser-cut blades that smoothly move between f/1.48 (for letting in more light in dark environments) and f/4 (for keeping more of the scene in focus, such as in group shots). To take advantage of this hardware, Apple overhauled the Camera app with new Pro controls. Apple is also trying to tackle the deepfake problem before it gets worse. A feature called Apple Reference Image acts as a cryptographic digital negative. The camera sensor signs every pixel at the moment a photo is taken, creating an unalterable reference file via Private Cloud Compute. Combined with upcoming support for the SynthID standard, photojournalists and regular users alike will have a verifiable way to show that an image is authentic and hasn’t been quietly manipulated by AI.

Raw power doesn’t mean much if the phone overheats and throttles three minutes into a gaming session, though. To address that, Apple has finally added a vapor chamber. Visually, both models retain their titanium-clad identity, arriving in Black, Silver, Glacier, and a deep new Burgundy finish. Look at the display, however, and you’ll notice that the Dynamic Island has been redesigned. Thanks to underlying display tweaks, the Island takes up less physical space while now being able to display up to three Live Activities simultaneously.
