Samsung has been rumored to be finalizing the launch details of a midrange phone with the model name SM-G8850. Word is that it will be called the Samsung Galaxy S9 Mini or Galaxy A9 Star. We may have already caught a glimpse of the upcoming device, thanks to a video and a photo uploaded to Weibo.

Will the SM-G8850 be called the Samsung Galaxy S9 Mini or the Samsung Galaxy A9 Star?

But the short clip clearly shows the front and back of the mystery Samsung product. We can also see the home screen, which will incorporate Bixby, Samsung’s in-house software assistant. Interestingly, the backing appears to be made of glass and has two cameras stacked vertically in the top-left corner, reminiscent of the Apple iPhone X‘s rear design. The fingerprint reader is positioned well above the company branding and to the right of the cameras.

Notably, the front will tout Samsung’s Infinity Display with an optimal aspect ratio for gaming and viewing content. Earlier reports had indicated that Samsung will give the Galaxy S9 Mini or A9 Star a screen size of 5.8 inches and a resolution of 1,440 x 2,960 pixels.

As with most other phones with a taller display, the bottom has software keys eating into the screen. Also, there are no physical buttons on the lower bezel. Meanwhile, the sides of the device appear to be made of metal. You’ll find a Type-C connector and 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom.

Naturally, the internal specs of the phone are not yet known, although a similar-looking device listed on China’s TENAA regulatory agency had been revealed to be powered by a Samsung Exynos 9810 chip paired with 4GB RAM. Other reports mention a Snapdragon 660 from Qualcomm, which is the same processor used to fuel the OPPO R15 Pro, Vivo X21, and Nokia 7 Plus.
