TECNO is back at it again, blurring the line between budget and flagship with the newly minted TECNO POVA 8 Pro 5G. Instead of leading with standard spec bumps, the brand is pushing a serious gaming and durability agenda, headlined by dual gaming chipsets, a high-end Sony camera, and the kind of water resistance usually reserved for rugged phones.
We don’t know if it will be released in the Philippines, but in Saudi Arabia, the TECNO POVA 8 Pro 5G is already retailing at SAR 1,799 (roughly ₱27,350 or $480) for the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage model. The 12GB RAM configuration with the same 256GB of storage is priced at SAR 1,999 (₱30,400 or $533).
Dual chips for 144FPS gaming
As highlighted in the brand’s promotional materials, the TECNO POVA 8 Pro 5G is heavily leaning into its “dual gaming chipsets” to push 144FPS gaming support. Under the hood, it’s powered by a 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Ultimate 5G processor, paired with a Mali-G615 MC2 GPU and a dedicated graphics co-processor called the P1 Graphic Chip designed to handle frame interpolation and maintain smooth performance.
All that horsepower feeds into a 6.78-inch HyperLux AMOLED display. It pushes a 1.5K resolution, a 144Hz refresh rate, and a high peak brightness of 4,500 nits. And speaking of heat, thermal management is handled by an AI IceShield cooling system rated to withstand internal temperatures up to 60 degrees Celsius.
Sony optics and the ‘Alive Matrix Display’
Cameras are usually the first casualty in gaming-focused midrangers, but TECNO isn’t entirely skimping here. The rear camera module houses a 50-megapixel main shooter using a Sony sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS), placed alongside an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens. Selfies are handled by a 13-megapixel front-facing camera.
But around the back is where things get visually interesting. TECNO retains its gamer-aesthetic roots by pairing that Sony camera with what it calls the “Alive Matrix Display” — a customizable rear mini-LED lighting system meant for notifications, gaming effects, and general personalization.
Smart software and a physical shortcut
The POVA 8 Pro 5G is loaded with AI-powered tools integrated into HiOS 16. You get access to TECNO’s digital assistant, Ask Ella, alongside an AI Productivity Suite that handles tasks like AI writing and generating quick YouTube video summaries. On the photography side, it features AI editing tools to easily remove flares, reflections, and shadows from your shots.

TECNO also included what it calls the “One-Tap Button.” This physical key lets you double-press to quickly launch apps, trigger specific features, or set a customized shortcut. It’s designed to help you act faster and stay a step ahead, particularly in gaming scenarios.
Built like a tank, backed by a big battery
TECNO didn’t just stop at a standard IP68 rating; the POVA 8 Pro 5G boasts a comprehensive IP69K/69/68/66 dust and water resistance rating. This means the smartphone can technically survive high-pressure, high-temperature water jets. It’s a rugged-level certification on a sleek gaming device.
Of course, keeping all this running requires a serious power cell. The phone packs a 6,500mAh battery that should easily push the device well into two-day territory for average users. It charges at 45 watts, which is perfectly fine by today’s standards, though filling up a 6,500mAh tank will require a bit of patience.
If the standard colors aren’t doing it for you, the company is also dropping the TECNO POVA 8 Pro 5G Tonino Lamborghini Limited Edition. It rocks the exact same powerhouse hardware but wraps it in a bespoke Tonino Lamborghini Black finish with exclusive design tweaks.
