Battery life takes center stage: TECNO has dropped the TECNO POVA 8 5G, doubling down on a “more is more” philosophy. It’s an aggressive midranger that pairs an 8,000mAh power cell with a customizable light-up rear display that looks straight out of a mecha anime.

Yes, TECNO is pushing straight into power-bank territory. The company claims a strict two-day battery life — certified by TÜV SÜD — which translates to about 14 hours of continuous Mobile Legends: Bang Bang gaming. When it eventually taps out, the included 45-watt fast charger can juice it from 1% to 50% in roughly 35 minutes. It also supports 10-watt reverse charging, though it’s worth noting TECNO axed the 30-watt wireless charging found on its predecessor.

But the sheer size of the battery isn’t the only thing demanding attention. TECNO is heavily pushing what it calls the Alive Matrix Display. Drawing obvious inspiration from the Nothing Phone’s Glyph interface, TECNO has miniaturized the concept into a tiny, dot-matrix LED panel disguised as the third lens on the triangular rear camera island. It flashes across 49 customizable animation scenarios — syncing to music playback, alerting you of incoming calls, showing a visual countdown timer, or lighting up for specific in-game events. It’s a clever way to give the unit a distinct visual identity, allowing you to leave it face-down without missing a beat. The chassis itself is IP64-rated for dust and water resistance.

Under the hood, the spec sheet is a mix of practical upgrades and a few calculated compromises. The TECNO POVA 8 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7100 platform, a chip built on an older 6nm process, but one specifically tuned to maintain a stable 90 fps in heavy mobile titles. That processor is paired with up to 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage, expandable via microSD. The Transsion sub-brand also integrated its own in-house G1 and SE1 enhancement chips, which promise stronger cellular and Wi-Fi signals in notoriously dead zones like elevators and basements.

On the front, you’re looking at a 6.76-inch FHD+ IPS LCD screen pushing a 144Hz refresh rate, capped at 950 nits of peak brightness.

Camera-wise, the triangular rear module might look like a multilens array, but there is only one actual shooter: a 50-megapixel Sony LYTIA 600 main sensor co-engineered with Sony, offering 2x in-sensor zoom. It’s joined by a single 13-megapixel selfie camera on the front.

TECNO is also jumping on the AI bandwagon, but skipping the cloud-heavy generative tricks. The POVA 8 5G ships with Android 16 and features what the company calls “practical AI” — built-in software that handles background noise cancellation during voice calls, automatically summarizes long YouTube videos, and instantly removes unwanted shadows or flares from your photos.

In India where the device is going on sale June 18th, the TECNO POVA 8 5G is available in two distinct configurations, priced as follows:

  • 6GB RAM + 128GB storage: ₹29,999 (roughly ₱19,205 or $313)
  • 8GB RAM + 128GB storage: ₹31,999 (₱20,489 or $334)

There is no official word yet on a Philippine launch timeline, but given TECNO’s aggressive historical rollout in the country, it’s likely the new POVA model will hit local shelves, too.
