A month after we gave you a sneak peek at Yashica‘s latest retro revival, the veil is finally off. The new Yashica Y16 Pocket Camera has officially launched, bringing the unmistakable charm of the company’s 1959 subminiature 16mm film shooter straight into the digital age.

If you’ve been itching for a dedicated point-and-shoot that gets you away from your smartphone screen without breaking the bank, this might be it. You can preorder the Y16 right now on the company’s website for $119 (HK$898 or roughly ₱6,800), with shipping expected to kick off in late November 2026.

While it trades analog film for a 12-megapixel digital sensor, the Yashica Y16 Pocket Camera stays true to its roots. It is unapologetically tiny, measuring just 9.1 x 4.5 x 2.9 centimeters and weighing a mere 93 grams with the battery included, so it will effortlessly slide into even the tightest jeans pocket. What makes this little brick stand out from the sea of affordable digital compacts, though, is how it encourages you to shoot. The brand outfitted the Y16 with a proper optical viewfinder backed by an eye sensor. The moment you raise the camera to your face, the 1.45-inch LCD screen on the back automatically shuts off. It’s a clever touch that removes digital distractions, encouraging you to stay in the moment and frame your shots the old-school way.

With direct-flash photography having a big moment right now, the Yashica Y16 Pocket Camera leans heavily into that gritty, high-contrast aesthetic. It packs an integrated Xenon flash system with three adjustable power settings — Low, Medium, and High — letting you dial in exactly how much light you need for your late-night snapshots or weekend party portraits. There is also a dedicated physical dial that lets you cycle through eight creative filters, giving your images a distinct mood straight out of the camera. If you want to capture motion, it can shoot 4K video at 22 frames per second, or smooth 1080p footage at 60fps.

Available in Baby Blue, Baby Pink, Butter Yellow, Green, Orange, Red, and classic Black, the Y16 is as much a fashion accessory as it is a camera. It charges via a modern USB-C port and saves your files to a standard microSD card, making it easy to transfer your photos for a quick edit or social media dump. It is exactly the kind of fun, zero-pressure gadget that makes everyday photography exciting again.
