RETAIL analyst GfK has released its report for the fourth quarter of 2016, revealing the 10 best-selling smartphones in the Philippines. Turns out the selfie-focused OPPO F1s was the most saleable model in the country, per data from the study.

Following is the list of phones that did well through the last quarter of 2016, all ranked according to sales data obtained by GfK.

  1. OPPO F1s
  2. Samsung Galaxy J1 2016 Duos 8GB J120H
  3. Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime G610Y LTE
  4. OPPO Neo 7
  5. Samsung Galaxy J7 2017 16GB J710F Dual NFC LTE
  6. LG X220 K5
  7. Huawei Honor Bee Dual
  8. Samsung Galaxy J5 2016 J510 Dual
  9. LG K430DS K10 LTE
  10. OPPO A37

Unsurprisingly, the most popular smartphone brands in the country dominated the chart — with the exception of Apple and local names like Cherry Mobile. It is likely that Cherry Mobile did not divulge its sales figures for the quarter, hence the omission of any mention of handsets from the brand.

In any case, three OPPO models find themselves on the list, while four more come from Samsung, two from LG, and one from Huawei’s Honor sub-brand. While unconfirmed, it is highly probable that OPPO’s top rank was driven by strong offline sentiment, and partly by the star power of its main endorsers, Sarah Geronimo and Alden Richards.

Don’t be surprised if another OPPO smartphone makes the cut next quarter, as the company has revealed that it has sold more than 22,000 OPPO F3 units in three days since its release in the Philippines.

And if you’re wondering why no Apple iPhone model made the list, consider that iPhones are expensive and extremely prohibitive for the Philippine market and that a lot of their sales in the country are derived from gray-market sources, which GfK and other analyst firms do not track. However, it bears noting that worldwide, iPhones were the best-selling smartphones in 2016 and even in the first quarter of 2017.

Interestingly, a more recent study by Strategy Analytics ranked the OPPO R9s as the world’s top selling Android smartphone last quarter. Another sign of things to come?
