As we were researching about the Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) for our review, we stumbled upon this page on the company’s Philippine website. It shows the price of the Samsung Galaxy Note FE or Fan Edition as P27,990 (around $552).

Wait, what? We don’t remember the Korean manufacturer announcing this anywhere. Not on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter, though yes, it’s on Samsung’s Facebook shop section. We must have missed it.

In case you didn’t know, the slightly tweaked version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 used to retail at P32,990 ($651), which is also the price of the Huawei Mate 10.

The Samsung Galaxy Note FE or Fan Edition is now priced at only P27,990 ($552) in the Philippines. It used to retail at P32,990 ($651).

We say “slightly tweaked” because the only difference it has with the ill-fated Note smartphone is the battery capacity. It’s 3,200mAh on the Samsung Galaxy Note FE while it’s 3,500mAh on the Note 7. The company made sure that the battery went through its eight-point safety check to see to it that no unit will blow up.

The rest of the specs are the same. The Fan Edition is still powered by an Exynos 8890 octa-core processor with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in memory. There’s a 5.7-inch QHD AMOLED screen, a 12-megapixel dual-pixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front-facing cam, and of course, the S Pen.

We have to verify how it’s doing in the Philippines. But in South Korea, around 400,000 units of the device got sold in just two months. Amazing considering what happened to the Note 7.

If you want to buy one, take note that you can trade in your old smartphone or tablet to get P2,000 ($39) off the Samsung Galaxy Note FE’s new P27,990 price till January 31, 2018.
