If the latest word on the street is to be believed, the Vivo APEX and X20 Plus UD will soon be joined by a Nokia flagship with an in-display fingerprint reader.

The Nokia 9 from HMD Global will reportedly push a biometrics sensor built into the screen as its major selling point when it hits shelves later this year. You might recall that the top-of-the-line handset was singled out before for possibly having an embedded sensor, which was first introduced in the Vivo X20 Plus UD in January 2018. And now it has been said that a reliable source out of China has confirmed the rumor to be true.

That would also mean that the Nokia 9 will most likely have an OLED display, as embedding a fingerprint scanner into the panel can only be done with OLED at the moment. The screen is expected to come in at 5.7 inches, with an 18:9 aspect ratio and minimal bezels on all sides.

As with the Apple iPhone X and many other premium Android phones, the Nokia 9 could have a notch as well. Internally, it is tipped to boast Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 845 chipset, giving it as much processor power as any device in the industry can give you today. As for the main camera setup, it’s been long rumored that the Nokia 9 will get multiple cameras with Zeiss optics.

The Nokia 9 will most likely have an OLED display, as embedding a fingerprint sensor into the panel can only be done with OLED at the moment. It could have a notch and multiple cameras with Zeiss optics.

As there is no official word from HMD Global, it’s a good idea to take these details with a healthy dose of skepticism. For now, we just have to wait for confirmation from the Finnish company. But by all appearances, the Nokia 9 is shaping up to be an exciting release.
