News of the upcoming smartphone announcement was revealed to us at Revü by a source familiar with the company’s immediate plans in the Philippines. Barring another reveal — which seems unlikely as it stands — the V9’s debut will mark Vivo’s first major announcement of 2018.

We already caught a glimpse of the Vivo V9 last month, when it appeared on a billboard in Indonesia proudly sporting slim bezels and a display notch that is home to what is supposed be a 24-megapixel camera. The backing appears to be made of metal with a matte finish.

Details have been thin on the ground apart from what has been confirmed about the Vivo V9’s external looks. The Vivo V7 and V7+, which launched late last year, see a Snapdragon 450 processor under the hood, so it’s possible that the V series follow-up will take advantage of a newer, more powerful Snapdragon 636 — or even 660 — platform, alongside a sharper 18:9 display, which would explain the alleged price hike.

There are whispers that the V9 will be priced at around 25,000 rupees (approximately P20,000 or $384) in the subcontinent.
