We’re still months away from Apple’s annual iPhone launch, yet here we are, about to get what is claimed to be an exclusive first look at one of the iPhone models that are launching in 2018.

The iDevice in the spotlight is the 6.1-inch variant, reportedly the only iPhone this year that will use an LCD screen. Check this out.

What’s our main takeaway from the video, assuming that we’re looking at the real deal here? It’s that this year’s 6.1-inch iPhone takes after 2017’s iPhone X. Everything is almost the same. The upper and side bezels are still thin, and — sorry, notch haters — there’s a cutout on the screen. The aspect ratio is still most likely 19.5:9. We still have an aluminum side frame. And the front and back are made of glass, too.

What has changed? This model looks a bit thicker than the 10th-anniversary iPhone. Plus, there’s only one camera at the back. It’s a fact that, when combined with reports saying that its display is not OLED, lends credence to rumors that the 6.1-inch version will be the cheapest of the three iPhones that Apple is introducing this year.

Bad news, though: According to Korean publication The Bell, the release of this variant will be delayed by two months. Apple will be adopting the notch design on an LCD screen for the first time, and there lies the problem.

To quote this source: “Japan Display and LG Display that are said to provide LCD panels for the upcoming 2018 LCD iPhone are struggling to secure yields. An analyst has claimed that manufacturers are encountering light leakage problem while applying notch design on the LCD iPhone. Thus, the mass production of the smartphone is behind its usual schedule.”

If true, Apple may still launch the 6.1-inch model in September, but availability will come at a later time — same as the iPhone X’s case in 2017.
