The OPPO F7 is one of the most highly regarded smartphones the Chinese company has ever built. And amid rumors of a sequel launching soon in the form of the OPPO F9, OPPO Philippines will apparently drop the suggested retail price of the F7 from P17,990 (about $338) to P14,990 ($282), which is a significant discount from the current market value.

(Update, July 26, 12:01 p.m.: It’s official! The OPPO F7 is now P3,000 ($56) cheaper. – AUG)

News of the price drop first spread on social media, on fan pages of several OPPO devices, including the F7. The markdown will officially take effect tomorrow, July 26, according to one OPPO sales staff. Another person said the new price might apply to purchases made beginning this Saturday, July 28th. Whatever the case, it will happen soon enough, so you may want to keep your wallet in hiding for the time being.

Conveniently for OPPO, the reduction also comes at a time when Huawei is expected to reveal the Nova 3i in the Philippines. Surely it can’t be a coincidence that the company is trying to undercut the competition days before it announces a similar value-for-money product for the local market. In case you missed it, the Nova 3i will retail at P15,990 ($300) here.

To recap, the OPPO F7 is a gorgeous update to the manufacturer’s midrange offering. It flaunts a glossy acrylic back that makes it stand out among a crowded field of loud and inexpensive smartphones. The front features a 6.23-inch LCD bearing a notch at the top to house the 25-megapixel selfie camera — easily the sharpest in its price range — and earpiece speaker, to name two. The back-facing camera located above the fingerprint reader is 16 megapixels and takes decent photos.
