Just a few days after it teased the Honor 2 Magic slider device at IFA 2018, Honor has announced two of its biggest smartphones yet — this time in its native China. You’re looking at the Honor 8X and 8X Max.

One goes slightly smaller than the 6.95-inch Honor Note 10 at 6.5 inches while the other pushes the screen-size boundary at 7.12 inches. Both have notches, dual cameras on the back, and rear-mounted fingerprint sensors. They make use of glass and metal, and their backs feature two textures to set them apart from most other phones today.

Whether they will be sold in the Philippines to replace the Honor 7X, their predecessor, we don’t know just yet. But we’ll let you know as soon as we get an update from the company’s local representative.

Honor 8X

The smaller of the two, the Honor 8X is the first handset of the Huawei sub-brand to use Kirin 710, the same 12nm chip that debuted on the Huawei Nova 3i. As with the Kirin 970, the 710 has a dedicated neural-processing unit for artificial intelligence-related functions.

The 8X opts for a more traditional, trapezoid-like notch and offers a high, 91 percent screen-to-body ratio. The display has a higher resolution than the one on the Max version. It also boasts higher-resolution cameras.

The base model with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of memory is priced at ¥1,399 (roughly P10,970 or $205) while the 6GB RAM/64GB ROM and 6GB RAM/128GB ROM variants cost ¥1,599 (P12,538 or $234) and ¥1,899 (P14,890 or $278), respectively.

Honor 8X Max

The bigger of the two new Honor smartphones is powered by a Qualcomm processor — a Snapdragon 636 in particular. You can easily tell it apart from the 8X because of the notch; the Honor 8X Max has a smaller cutout, not unlike that of the OPPO F9‘s waterdrop notch.

Besides the lower-resolution screen and cameras, the RAM has been set at just 4GB… for now; the 6GB RAM/64GB ROM version with Snapdragon 660 is still not on sale. However, it does has a massive battery rated at 5,000mAh.

The model with 64GB built-in memory is retailing at ¥1,499 (P11,754 or $219) while the variant with a higher, 128GB of storage gets a price tag of ¥1,799 (P14,106 or $263). The 6GB RAM and 64GB storage version with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 and Adreno 512 GPU will go on sale next month.

Specs

  • 7.12-inch IPS-LCD notched display; 2,244 x 1,080 resolution (18.7:9)

  • 64GB/128GB storage
