HMD Global, the current licensee of Nokia smartphones, has announced pricing and availability for the Nokia 5.1 Plus in the Philippines.

Launched as the Nokia X5 in China in July, the smartphone can be bought from online retailers Argomall and MemoXpress.com for P12,990 (roughly $242) starting today, October 29, and from offline stores beginning November 12. Your color options are black, blue, and white. Every purchase comes with a free gamepad.

The Nokia 5.1 Plus looks a lot like the Nokia 6.1 Plus, which goes for P15,990 ($298) in the Philippines, sporting a glass body and small bezels with a notch up top. The LCD screen measures 5.86 inches and runs at a 1,520 x 720 resolution. The notch incorporates the wide-angle selfie camera and earpiece as well.

The Nokia 5.1 Plus looks a lot like the Nokia 6.1 Plus, sporting a glass body and small bezels with a notch up top.

As on the 6.1 Plus, its back-facing camera comprises two sensors — one is 13 megapixels, and the other is 5 megapixels. The latter feeds depth information to the Nokia 5.1 Plus when taking pictures in portrait mode. The fingerprint reader is also located on the back, just below the primary camera.

Inside, the Nokia 5.1 Plus gets MediaTek’s Helio P60, the same processor that powers the OPPO F9, Vivo V11i, and Cherry Mobile Flare S7 Plus, coupled with 3GB RAM and 32GB of expandable storage. Its 3,060mAh battery charges over a USB-C connection.

And while those specs are fine in their own right, what stands out for us is pure Android 8.1 Oreo. Yes, the phone is part of the Android One program, and HMD Global has confirmed it will get Android 9.0 Pie soon.
