Huawei P Smart Z to get pop-up camera, full-screen design?

OPPO, Vivo, and Samsung have recently come out with full-screen phones with a pop-up or sliding camera to keep the top bezel notch-free while slimming down the bezels.

Could Huawei be the next big smartphone maker to follow suit in adopting an appearance similar to the OPPO F11 Pro, Vivo V15 and V15 Pro, and Samsung Galaxy A80? Leaked renders of the so-called Huawei P Smart Z have appeared online, and they suggest a radical change from previous iterations.

Based on these images, the P Smart Z will get an edge-to-edge display that skips the notch and hole-punch design altogether, and instead has a motorized selfie camera that emerges from inside the frame when needed.

Meanwhile, the back of the handset, which seems to use 3D glass, features dual cameras and a physical fingerprint reader, both of which tells us that it is likely going to be priced competitively in the midrange. It might even fall within the price range of the P30 Lite — one of the best-value smartphones Huawei currently offers. The P30 Lite retails for P16,990 (about $326) in the Philippines.

Another interesting thing about the leak is the timing itself. Huawei has yet to announce a successor to last year’s Nova 3i, which launched the company’s Kirin 710 processor for midrange devices. Considering that it doesn’t seem to have any plans of launching a new smartphone line in the Philippines at the moment, could the P Smart Z also be the Nova 4i for the local market? If it is, will it serve as the launching pad for a new Huawei processor, too, possibly the follow-up to the Kirin 710?

We have a lot of questions. For now, take these images with a grain of salt as Huawei hasn’t confirmed the name of the phone in question, much less the supposed renders that leave nothing to the imagination.
