The Nokia 8.1 became available in the Philippines July 19. Five months later, it has become more affordable — by P7,000 (around $138) at that.

You can now buy the smartphone for P12,990 ($256) instead of P19,990 $394), a suggested retail price that we think should have been its SRP from the start. The markdown puts the Nokia 8.1 in the price category where the likes of the Realme 3 Pro and Realme 5 Pro belong to. It is one device you should consider as a gift this holiday season.

Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 710 processor, the Nokia 8.1 boasts 12- and 13-megapixel cameras with Zeiss optics on the back and one — a 20-megapixel selfie shooter — in front. The latter is housed in a wide, iPhone-style notch.

The chip is paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage. And as with other Nokia phones, the 8.1 is part of Google’s Android One program and is guaranteed to get two years of software updates. Which means the Android 9.0 Pie OS version that it ships with can be updated to Android 10.
