Xiaomi applies to trademark ‘POCO F2.’ New Pocophone coming?

Don’t look now, but we could finally be seeing Xiaomi‘s Pocophone sub-brand revived this year.

It seems that Xiaomi already filed a trademark application for “POCO F2” in China on December 4, 2019. Screenshots of the said application with number 4280005 were posted on Twitter.

Why in China when the POCO F1, known in countries like the Philippines as the Pocophone F1, was not even launched there? That could raise some eyebrows.

As the leaker pointed out, though, Xiaomi also had the F1 trademarked in China two months before it was unveiled in August 2018.

If we follow that timeline, we could be seeing a February 2020 launch of the POCO F2, which could be rebranded in other markets as the Pocophone F2.

Earlier, Pocophone global head and Xiaomi Indonesia general manager Alvin Tse said in a now-deleted tweet that “you will hear more from POCO in 2020.”

We certainly hope so. Back in 2018 when most Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 phones were priced at least P40,000 (around $792), the Pocophone F1 — also powered by the 845 — broke barriers when it was offered for as low as P17,990 ($356). It was game-changing, and its successor could be one, too.
