This phone proves Realme is more than a gaming brand

We used to equate “Realme” to gaming, courtesy of its successful sponsorship of Moonton’s Mobile Legends tournaments. But its latest efforts indicate that it’s focusing on being a lifestyle brand. The Realme X2 Pro Master Edition winning a Red Dot Award for Product Design recently is just one proof of that.

In case you didn’t know, the Red Dot Design Award — founded by the German Design Council — is considered one of the most prestigious competitions in the design industry.

The Realme X2 Pro Master Edition was launched in October last year, although it’s a pity it wasn’t released in the Philippines. It’s powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 Plus, which is still among the most powerful chips in 2020.

The smartphone boasts a screen with a 90Hz refresh rate; a 64-megapixel quad camera; and a 4,000mAh battery with support for 50-watt fast charging. But what sets it apart from the regular X2 Pro is that the Master Edition is inspired by textures of red brick and concrete, both common building materials.

For the said special edition, Realme partnered with renowned Japanese product designer Naoto Fukasawa.

From what we’ve gathered, the device underwent a strict process, with Realme creating its custom RP paint and mixing it with lacquered glass-coating technology. Then think 32 stages of sanding and testing for that frosted-touch feeling. Think laser technology PicoSure for engraving a fretwork logo on frosted glass and a replica of Naoto Fukasawa’s signature with 100% fidelity.

What should we expect from Realme next time? Our expectations are high, mind you, considering that even the Realme C3 budget phone, which we believe hasn’t been entered in any competition, looks like a premium phone, not something that’s currently priced at P5,990 (around $119).
