Motorola is back in the Philippines after a long hiatus. Now, the Lenovo-owned smartphone brand has announced two phones in the country, namely the Motorola Moto G 5G Plus and the high-end Motorola RAZR 5G foldable.

The latter is priced at P72,990 (about $1,507) and will be available in December 2020, just like the Moto G 5G Plus. That’s a hefty premium and quite a long wait, assuming you’re interested in the RAZR 5G at all.

The mid-tier Moto G 5G Plus, on the other hand, is a much more affordable option, so we’ll focus on it instead. In the Philippines, the phone has a suggested retail price of P16,990 ($351), making it the cheapest 5G phone unveiled for the local market so far. We’re awaiting the Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite‘s launch here; it would be interesting to see if it can take the title away from this Moto.

On top of 5G connectivity, which is being promoted by telcos and governments as a transformative high-speed technology and currently being deployed in select locations around the country (many sites are live in Metro Manila, actually), the Moto G 5G Plus is also equipped with a 6.7-inch LCD screen with a cinema-wide 21:9 aspect ratio and a 90Hz refresh rate.

It’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 chipset alongside 8GB of RAM. It likewise has a quad-camera setup around the back consisting of a 48-megapixel, f/1.7 camera; an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera; and 5- and 2-megapixel macro and depth sensors.

On the front, you have dual cameras in separate punch holes. The main selfie shooter features a 16-megapixel, f/2.0 camera, while the secondary option has 8 megapixels and is fitted with an ultra-wide-angle lens for group shots.

In terms of battery life, the Moto G 5G Plus’ 5,000mAh battery should provide long usage times on a single charge. Motorola quotes a two-day battery life without recharging. And speaking of, the phone supports 20-watt fast charging out of the box.

Like previous Motorola releases, the Moto G 5G Plus runs Android 10 out of the box with no software skins and zero duplicate apps. It also sports a dedicated Google Assistant button on the side.
