With Honor becoming an independent brand recently, the brand has regained access to Google Mobile Services, including the Play Store.

Honor is also making a comeback to the flagship scene with the global announcement of the Honor Magic3 series, namely the Honor Magic3, Honor Magic3 Pro, and Honor Magic3 Pro Plus.

All three smartphones are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset with support for fast 5G data where available. Like previous iterations, the new Magic handsets aim to offer the best camera specs available, to go along with their premium, water-resistant designs and powerful internals.

Honor Magic3 and Honor Magic3 Pro

The Magic3 and Magic3 Pro share many similarities across the board, but slightly differ in their camera capabilities, with the Pro adding a 64-megapixel telephoto camera capable of up to 100x digital zoom, on top of Sony’s 50-megapixel IMX 766 main sensor, a 64-megapixel monochrome camera, and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera.

Further, Honor notes these are the first IMAX-calibrated smartphones, allowing users the ability to enhance their photos and videos using exclusive color profiles. Similar to many premium cameras, they can also record video in the LOG format, for those who plan to grade their footage after capture.

Both devices have a curved 6.76-inch OLED display operating at up to 120Hz. The screen also features a pill-shaped punch hole to accomodate a 13-megapixel selfie shooter and a 3D ToF depth sensor for faster and more accurate face unlock.

A Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 powers the vanilla model, whereas the Magic3 Pro uses the upgraded Snapdragon 888 Plus. Both have a 4,600mAh battery that offers 66-watt wired charging. As expected, they also boot the latest Magic UI version based on Android 11.

The Magic3 Pro Plus flaunts the same screen size as the rest of the trio, sporting a 6.76-inch Flex OLED display with 89-degree curvature on the sides and 120Hz refresh. Importantly, it also incorporates “Nano Crystal Shield” screen protection, which is said to be three times more durable than the typical glass screen found on a smartphone.

On the camera front, the Magic3 Pro Plus’ hexagon camera setup includes a 50-megapixel Sony IMX700 primary sensor, which is much larger than the 1/1.5-inch IMX766 in the Magic3 and Magic3 Pro. The 64-megapixel sensor of its wide-angle camera is likewise bigger than what the other two variants offer.

The Huawei Magic3 Pro Plus’ other two cameras are present on the Magic3 Pro, and the fifth camera cutout is for an 8×8 dToF sensor as well.
