As expected, Xiaomi‘s gaming brand today announced the successors to the Black Shark 4 and Black Shark 4 Pro gaming phones.

The Black Shark 4S and Black Shark 4S Pro have finally launched in China, offering iterative internal upgrades over their predecessors and at the same time introducing a new design language.

In China, the new Black Shark 4S series smartphones are priced as follows:

  • Black Shark 4S
    • 8GB/128GB: ¥2,699 (around P21,227 or $419)
    • 12GB/128GB: ¥2,999 (P23,586 or $466)
    • 12GB/256GB: ¥3,299 (P25,945 or $512)
    • Gundam Edition/12GB/256GB: ¥3,499 (P27,518 or $543)
  • Black Shark 4S Pro
    • 12GB/256GB: ¥4,799 (P37,742 or $745)
    • 16GB/512GB: ¥5,499 (P43,248 or $854)

Your color options for the vanilla model are Black and Fog White, while the Pro arrives in either Galaxy Black or Sky White. It’s worth mentioning that the Black Shark 4S is also available in a limited-edition Gundam colorway, which is not offered with the Black Shark 4S Pro.

Xiaomi’s latest gaming phones will go on sale from October 15, but they’re already up for preorder in China.

Both devices are equipped with a 6.67-inch E4 AMOLED screen, same as their predecessors. They also retain the 144Hz refresh rate and 720Hz touch sampling and share the same 4,500mAh battery backup and 120-watt fast charging as previous models.

The Black Shark 4S and Black Shark 4S Pro still boast UFS 3.1 storage in RAID configuration for faster read and write speeds when opening apps and accessing content.

Black Shark 4S and Black Shark 4S Pro. The Pro model of their predecessors didn’t get released in the Philippines. Will the higher version become available locally this time? We wonder

The Black Shark 4S features triple cameras at the back, headlined by a 48-megapixel main sensor, whereas the camera setup of the Pro version upgrades to a 64-megapixel primary sensor. Both have a 20-megapixel camera nestled in a punch hole for selfies.

Finally — and not the least — the vanilla variant is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870, just like the Black Shark 4. The Black Shark 4S Pro, though, swaps its predecessor’s Snapdragon 888 for a Snapdragon 888 Plus.
