Apple iPhone 14 series launched. Here are the PH prices

It’s that time of the year. Apple today introduced four models in its 2022 iPhone lineup — the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max — alongside the Apple AirPods Pro, Apple Watch Ultra, Apple Watch Series 8, and Apple Watch SE.

(Update, September 30: Here’s when the iPhone 14 series and Apple Watch Ultra, Watch Series 8, and Watch SE 2022 will be available in the Philippines!)

The launch came earlier than usual, and hopefully, this means that the new smartphones will become available in the Philippines earlier, too. Last year, the iPhone 13 series was released in first-wave countries September 24 and in the Philippines October 22. Well, at least we already know how much the latest ones cost; the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max are now up on Apple’s local site, with prices starting at P56,990 (around $788 converted). Yes, there’s a price increase.

  • Apple iPhone 14
  • Apple iPhone 14 Plus
    • 128GB: P63,990 (from $899 in the U.S.)
    • 256GB: P70,990
    • 512GB: P82,990
  • Apple iPhone 14 Pro
    • 128GB: P70,990 (from $999 in the U.S. before taxes)
    • 256GB: P77,990
    • 512GB: P89,990
    • 1TB: P102,990
  • Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max
    • 128GB :P77,990 ($1,099 in the U.S. before taxes)
    • 256GB: P84,990
    • 512GB: P96,990
    • 1TB: P109,990

Preorders for all the new iPhones start September 9 in first and second-wave markets.

In Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Singapore, Spain, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, the U.S., and more than 30 other countries and regions, availability of the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max starts September 16; and the iPhone 14 Plus, October 7.

In Malaysia, Turkey, and 20 other countries and regions, availability of the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max begins September 23. There’s no word yet on the iPhone 14 Plus’ release date.

So, what’s up with the new iPhones?

For the non-Pro iPhones, it’s “out goes the mini, and in comes your choice between big and bigger,” with the base model arriving with a 6.1-inch screen instead of a 5.4-inch one and the Plus getting a 6.7-inch display.

The design is familiar, though, because it’s what you basically see on the iPhone 13 even if the colors are already toned down. Even the processing duties are given to the American technology giant’s A15 Bionic chip, not the new A16 Bionic SoC — a departure from Apple’s strategy of equipping all the models in a lineup with the same chipset.

However, they do get these features that are also offered by the Pro models: new TrueDepth camera, Action mode, Cinematic mode in 4K, better low-light capture, crash detection, Emergency SOS via satellite, improved battery life, Ceramic Shield, and splash and water resistance.

The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, on the other hand, say goodbye to the notch and hello to a pill-shipped cutout for the Face ID components and the selfie camera. Apple calls the latter Dynamic Island, which adjusts dynamically and offers new interactions for notifications and activities.

The two Pros also pack an A16 Bionic 5G chip, an always-on display, a 48-megapixel main camera on the back, a 2x telephoto lens, a new 12-megapixel ultrawide shooter, and a Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion that boasts the highest outdoor peak brightness in a smartphone: up to 2000 nits — twice as bright as on the iPhone 13 Pro.

If you’re thinking of upgrading or switching to the iPhone 14 and are not sure about which of the four in the lineup to get, we suggest that you watch this video before making your purchasing decision.
