Now that we have the official cover art and preorder dates locked in, Rockstar Games has finally answered the other multibillion-dollar question: How much is Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) actually going to cost?
The good news is that the apocalyptic internet rumors of a $150 (roughly ₱9,201) base game were wildly off the mark. In reality, getting into Leonida on Day 1 comes with a couple of modern caveats.
The quick breakdown
- The base price. Starts at $79.99 (around ₱4,700) for the Standard Edition, officially pushing the new-gen industry baseline up by $10 (approximately ₱613).
- The ultimate tier. GTA 6: Ultimate Edition sits at $99.99 (about ₱5,900) and includes exclusive story-mode vehicles, weapons, and gear.
- The preorder perk. All preorders locked in before Nov. 20 receive the throwback Vintage Vice City Pack.
- The format. 100% digital code-in-a-box at launch; no physical discs.
- The mode. Single-player campaign only at launch.
- Philippine status. Official local PSN/Xbox storefront pricing is still pending.
An $80 new-gen ceiling
Per Rockstar’s official rollout, GTA 6 is pushing the current-generation pricing boundary upward. The base experience is set at $79.99 for the Standard Edition — a $10 hike over the $70 triple-A ceiling established at the dawn of the PS5 and Xbox Series X era.
For those inclined to go all-in, the studio announced an Ultimate Edition priced at $99.99. Rather than bundling multiplayer currency, this top-tier package focuses entirely on the single-player narrative, adding an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, and apparel threaded directly into Jason and Lucia’s campaign. Additionally, anyone who preorders either edition before Nov. 20 secures the Vintage Vice City Pack throwback cosmetic bundle.
As for gamers in the Philippines, take note that as of press time, localized pricing for the Philippine PlayStation Store and Xbox Marketplace has not populated yet. We are keeping our eyes on the regional storefronts and will update this story the moment the official local price tags go live.
Kiss the plastic retail case goodbye (for now)
If you were hoping to display a glossy steelbook on your shelf next to your PS5, you will have to sit tight. Rockstar confirmed that GTA 6 will launch strictly as a digital release.
While physical disc editions are expected to roll out down the line, early adopters are going to be entirely at the mercy of their fiber connections. Given that the game’s file size is almost certainly going to demand a massive chunk of your console’s solid-state drive, you’ll want to make sure your home internet plans are prepped for a brutal, overnight preload.
Solo flight in Vice City
In a move that feels simultaneously disappointing and entirely logical, GTA 6 will launch as a pure single-player experience.
When protagonists Jason and Lucia hit the streets, you will be playing alone; the next evolution of the multibillion-dollar GTA Online ecosystem will not be bundled into the Day 1 package.
Historically, this is standard operating procedure for the studio. Both Grand Theft Auto V (2013) and Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018) held their online multiplayer modes back for several weeks post-launch. For Rockstar, the delay serves a clever dual purpose: It forces players to experience the sprawling narrative they spent a decade building, and — crucially — it buys their server engineers a few extra weeks of breathing room before the biggest digital stampede in entertainment history hits the login screen.
Preorders for both tiers officially open tomorrow, June 25, across Sony’s PlayStation 5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and Series S consoles. If you are waiting to play this on PC with a mouse and keyboard, however, you will need to practice some patience. Rockstar has yet to announce a PC version of GTA 6, a platform snub that is practically a studio tradition. Both GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 took a year or more to make the jump to Windows, so console players will almost certainly get a healthy head start before a port drops.
