Infinix HOT 70 review: Color us impressed with this sub-₱10,000 phone

For years, the budget segment has been a landscape of safe, predictable, and frankly uninspired glass-and-plastic slabs.

That’s completely understandable. Manufacturers typically compromise on design to hit a price point, leaving consumers with devices that function adequately but lack any real personality. Infinix, as you probably know, doesn’t belong to that crowd.

We’ve been using the Infinix HOT 70, which just launched in the Philippines, for the past week. We think the brand has pulled a proverbial rabbit out of its hat, delivering a smartphone that is as much a fun fashion statement as it is a daily driver.

Built around the campaign slogan “Life full of color,” the new HOT 70 is designed for young professionals, creators, and trendsetters who want a unit that looks as good as it lasts. It offers a slim profile, serious battery endurance, and AI tools typically found only on phones costing three times as much. After spending considerable time testing the Infinix HOT 70, here are our thoughts on what might be one of the year’s most intriguing bargain-basement models.

More than just a pretty back

Let’s discuss the standout feature first: the design. Our review unit comes in the clean and minimalist Dive Blue colorway, which is a great everyday option alongside the Silver Dancer and Night Pulse options. If you want a bit more flair, the Quiet Violet and Green Texture variants feature a Lumina Flare micro-texture that shifts under the light, complete with a colorful camera ring Infinix calls the Crystal Mood Island.

More interestingly, the HOT 70 is also available in Thermo Orange. Even though we didn’t test this specific version, it’s worth highlighting. It uses a special thermochromic ink that reacts directly to temperature changes. Drop it below 0°C, and it turns into a deep, saturated orange. However, when you apply heat of around 65°C, the back transitions to a light orange tone.

Just some of the colors to choose from!

Infinix even points out that you can use a hot glue gun (carefully, and for short durations) to draw patterns, signatures, or even doodles directly onto the rear panel. We’ve previously seen this kind of thermochromic tech on midrange models from other brands, but never on an entry-level offering like this — and that’s saying something, especially in a sea of monochromatic handsets. All this aesthetic flair is packed into a slim 7.49mm body that weighs just 195 grams.

As a team that constantly handles glossy new devices fresh out of technology launches, we know a smudge magnet when we see one. Thankfully, the company applied a 50-micron anti-fingerprint coating to the Infinix HOT 70. The pearl-smooth back actually does a fantastic job resisting sweat and everyday smudges, so it doesn’t look gross after just a few minutes of use. It feels decent in hand. And because it’s quite thin, it slips right into our jeans without issue and never feels too bulky during long-term use.

Adding a touch of flair to the rear of the smartphone is the familiar Active Halo Light Ring. This LED lighting system sits flush with the camera module and provides visual alerts for incoming calls, message notifications, charging status, and game launches. It’s useful when the unit is placed face-down on a desk during a meeting, allowing you to stay subtly informed without checking the screen.

Speaking of which, the Infinix HOT 70 sports a large 6.78-inch IPS LCD display. While the HD+ resolution might sound modest on paper, the panel compensates with a bit of fluidity and responsiveness. It features a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate — scaling between 45, 60, 90, and 120Hz depending on the content — and a 240Hz touch sampling rate that mobile gamers will appreciate.

Outdoor visibility is one of the compromises here. The panel caps out at 700 nits in High Brightness Mode or HBM, so it could struggle against the harsh glare of the midday sun. However, it somewhat redeems itself indoors. The screen includes DC dimming for eye care, too, keeping your late-night scrolling comfortable and free of eye-straining screen flicker.

Made for the long haul

The Infinix HOT 70 is pretty durable despite its slim profile. It features an IP65 certification, providing full dust protection and resistance against water jets, making it sweat-proof and rain-resistant for outdoor use.

Additionally, this model earned the coveted SGS Certified Premium Performance rating for impact resistance. It successfully survived 1.5-meter extreme directional drops on all six sides and four corners, 1.4-meter multi-angle drops, and over 40 consecutive front face drops.

Infinix is also backing up this physical durability with a generous software commitment. The HOT 70 guarantees three major OS upgrades, launching with XOS 16 and updating all the way through XOS 19, alongside five years of security patches. This level of future-proofing is rare in the budget tier and ensures the phone remains secure and feature-rich for at least half a decade.

Similar to other Infinix models, the HOT 70 includes a dedicated physical shortcut on the right-hand side, below the power and volume keys. This One-Tap AI Button has a textured surface for a tactile feel. More importantly, it serves as a gateway to the smartphone’s expansive AI features.

By default, a single short press triggers AI FlashMemo. Say, you’re looking at a digital business card or an event invite. Just tap the button and the device grabs what’s on the screen. It automatically figures out what you want to do, turning that screenshot into a summary, a saved contact, a calendar event, or a Gmail draft in seconds. Everything gets neatly dumped into the AI MindHub, which acts as a smart central folder that organizes your saved notes, videos, and ideas.

Holding the button down via a long press fires up Infinix’s Folax AI Assistant. You can ask Folax to translate foreign text in real time, summarize a long article, solve a math problem, and much more. Best of all, Folax can pull answers from more than five different AI models — including ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, and Meta AI — ensuring you get accurate, context-aware responses without ever switching apps.

Rounding out the software suite are privacy tools like XGuard, which hides sensitive apps and blocks malicious pop-up ads; Pure Voice to filter out background noise during calls; and UltraLink, a Bluetooth connection feature that allows device-to-device communication up to 1.5 kilometers away when entirely off the cellular grid. The latter essentially allows the Infinix HOT 70 to function as both a phone and a walkie-talkie.

A smarter camera system

For taking photos and videos, the Infinix HOT 70 relies on a 50-megapixel main camera optimized for improved light intake. The hardware itself produces reasonably sharp images with serviceable dynamic range in well-lit areas.

However, when the sun sets, you’ll naturally start to see the physical limits of the sensor. The camera leans heavily on post-processing to brighten things up, which can sometimes give background details like tree leaves a slightly smudged, watercolor look. But for a phone at this price point, that’s to be expected. Flipping to the front, the 8-megapixel camera is just fine for casual video calls, quick Instagram updates, and everyday selfies. It gets the job done without overpromising.

Fortunately, the software handles much of the heavy lifting to compensate for those hardware limits. Take the AI Live Photo mode, for example. If you’re trying to take a picture of a moving subject — like a hyper pet (which we have one too many of) or friends playing the now-popular pickleball — the software records a quick clip and automatically discards the blurry frames, leaving you with just the sharpest shot. Sharing those moments is super easy, too, thanks to NFC Tap Transfer. Just tap the Infinix HOT 70 against another phone to instantly send the Live Photo to other Infinix devices — or even to an iPhone if the proprietary Instant Transfer app is downloaded.

When a photo doesn’t turn out quite right, the Transsion sub-brand’s AI Studio steps in. The AI Eraser tool allows you to circle, brush, or use the new Select-to-Remove function to wipe out photobombers, trash bins, or background clutter with a single tap. And if you have a tight vertical portrait but really want to use it as a widescreen desktop background, AI Extender uses generative fill to invent the missing edges and stretch out the frame.

2-day endurance, 1-hour charging

Inside, the Infinix HOT 70 is powered by a 6nm MediaTek Helio G100 Ultimate processor. While it is strictly limited to 4G connectivity, which might concern some users, it remains decent for everyday use. Paired with a Mali-G57 GPU, LPDDR4X RAM, and UFS 2.2 storage that you can expand up to 2TB via a microSD card, it delivers a reasonably responsive experience. More importantly, it has enough graphical muscle to run popular titles like Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and GTA San Andreas at solid frame rates.

The handset packs a high-capacity 6,000mAh battery, which is roughly 15% bigger than its predecessor. According to Infinix, this translates to roughly 25 hours of mixed usage or 10.5 hours of continuous MOBA gaming. In our own real-world testing, however, we squeezed out two full days of regular use before needing to plug it in.

The wired charging speed is also above average. The HOT 70’s 45-watt Lightning FastCharge gets you back to a full battery in about an hour. For heavy users, Infinix even included bypass charging. When activated (you can set the threshold at 20%, 40%, 60%, or 80%), the unit routes power directly from the wall charger straight to the motherboard, skipping the battery. This keeps temperatures down, preventing the phone from overheating and slowing down when running Waze on a hot dashboard in heavy traffic or grinding ranked matches on mobile data.
