It was only two days ago that the MediaTek Dimensity 720 7nm chip was launched to “give consumers access to premium 5G experiences on mid-tier smartphones.”

Today, the first device to use it has finally gone official, albeit without fanfare. We learned about it through many of the accounts we follow on Chinese social media platform Weibo. This is the OPPO A72 5G — not to be confused with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665-powered A72 — and it’s already up for preorder in China for a price of ¥1,899 (around P13,351 or $271). Availability is scheduled for August 3.

The 5G SoC features two ARM Cortex-A76 big cores clocked at 2GHz, an ARM Mali G57 class GPU, LPDDR4X memory, and UFS 2.2.

According to a listing on online retailer JD, the OPPO A72 5G packs 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The 4,040mAh battery supports 18-watt of fast charging, and even with 10% of juice left, OPPO claims you can still chat with someone on Chinese messaging app WeChat for an hour and 40 minutes.
