THE leaks started several days ago, when images of local ads starring South Korean star G-Dragon for the new OPPO F3 and F3 Plus surfaced online and spread like wildfire among international news outlets. Sought for comment on earlier reports, OPPO Philippines simply told us to wait for an official announcement. And so we waited.

As seen by myLes07 on Twitter. We’re sure that Alden Richards, not G-Dragon, will be featured in the official marketing collateral for the upcoming OPPO ‘selfie expert.’

Now, we finally have word on an imminent OPPO launch event, one that will likely introduce the F3 and F3 Plus to the local market. The date to watch is March 23. And although the invite does not include the names of the handsets, one particular feature gets mentioned and calls attention to the hardware.

How does dual selfie cameras sound on OPPO’s next F series phones? Awesome, we would imagine. We’ve seen two front-facing cameras on the Vivo V5 Plus (click for our review) and were impressed with the results. We’re assuming the F3 and F3 Plus will offer the same functionality that allows for bokeh-laced selfies made possible by a secondary cam.

Based on the leaked images, the F3 and/or F3 Plus also looks a lot like the Vivo V5 Plus and existing OPPO handsets.

Specs-wise, we’re grasping at straws at this point. Some reports claim the F3 Plus will have a top-shelf Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset and as much as 6GB of RAM. We believe the OPPO F3 and F3 Plus are premium midrange devices that sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 and 653 chip, respectively.

At least 3GB of RAM should be inside either model. As for the imaging tech inside the selfie cameras, it wouldn’t be a stretch for OPPO to use the same 20- and 8-megapixel sensors found at the top of the Vivo V5 Plus.

Regardless, it will be weeks before we can settle the debate. Are you excited for OPPO’s new selfie phones? Chime in the comments below.
