XIAOMI’S Redmi 4A is almost due for an upgrade. After all, the cheapest phone in the Redmi 4 series was released in November last year. So we’re not surprised that alleged details about the Xiaomi Redmi 5A, its successor, have surfaced.

The bad news? If you’re looking for a new design, don’t keep your hopes up. If true, the press render below tells us that it’s the “Apple iPhone 6 to Apple iPhone 6S” of the entry-level category; it hasn’t changed much. In fact, it seems that the only thing different here is the placement of the Mi logo, which can now be found in the upper lower part of the back, not right after the speaker.

Xiaomi Redmi 5A, the cheapest phone in the Redmi 5 series?

The specs are more of the same as well. The Xiaomi Redmi 5A is said to sport the following:

  • 5-inch screen
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 16GB of internal storage
  • 13-megapixel rear camera
  • 5-megapixel front camera
  • 3,000mAh battery
  • Android 7.1-based OS

The 140.44 x 70.14 x 8.35mm dimensions and 136g weight hint that the Xiaomi Redmi 5A could be a little longer and thinner than its predecessor.
