The final number is in. OPPO Philippines has revealed that it got its highest number of preorders — ever — thanks to the recently launched OPPO F5.

According to a statement sent to the media, a record-breaking 33,000 preorders were logged in just one week. This may be an indication that the F5 will be the company’s most successful smartphone yet. We understand that OPPO Philippines sold 22,000 units of the OPPO F3 in the first three days of availability. Unfortunately, we don’t have the OPPO F5’s predecessor’s preorder data.

A record-breaking 33,000 OPPO F5 preorders were logged in just one week.

Stephen Bryan Cheng, the local outfit’s brand marketing manager, says that “the overwhelming pre-orders we received … exceeded our expectations.”

We are not surprised, though. After all, it is the first time for an OPPO phone to be this aggressively priced. For only P15,990 or about $311, you’re already getting an 18:9 screen and 20- and 16-megapixel front and rear cameras with artificial intelligence or AI beauty-recognition technology, which lets the OPPO F5 scan 200 facial-recognition spots and make an analysis, so the device would know the kind of enhancement your image needs.

18:9 picture format, anyone?

It’s not just in pricing. OPPO Philippines has been in its most aggressive when it comes to marketing or promotion as well — from the teasing stage until today. It has a stable of more popular celebrity endorsers and influencers, and you can see OPPO banners everywhere — from the airport to your television set. It’s like the well of money won’t dry up, heh.

But of course, those may just be some of the many factors in OPPO Philippines’ best-ever preorder number.

According to our source at the company, they’re now asking the mothership — OPPO headquarters in Shenzhen, China — for a higher F5 allocation.
