Surprise, surprise: Cherry Mobile isn’t done with the year yet. The Philippine-based mobile brand has announced three new smartphones under the Desire series, namely the Cherry Mobile Desire R6 Plus, Desire R6, and Desire R6 mini.
All three smartphones are priced under P4,000, or roughly $79, making them an attractive option to those looking to upgrade from a feature phone without settling for something that looks plain and plasticky. Don’t get us wrong — these phones unapologetically incorporate plastic into their designs, but they don’t look cheap to us.

The Desire R6 Plus will sell for P3,699 ($73), while the Cherry Mobile Desire R6 and Desire R6 mini are retailing at P3,299 ($65) and P1,899 ($37), respectively. The extra cash will get you a larger display and a more agreeable battery capacity, though not much else. That said, those who prefer a more compact design may want to opt for the regular R6 instead, as both phones are pretty similar inside and out.

Underneath the metallic exteriors of the R6 Plus and R6 sits a quad-core MediaTek 6580 processor with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable storage. However, neither provide LTE connectivity, making them a hard sell to anyone looking for a fast internet experience over mobile connections. None of these phones have LTE cell service.
On the plus side, both the R6 Plus and R6 feature a rear-mounted fingerprint reader, in addition to 13- and 5-megapixel cameras around the back and on the front. They run Cherry OS, Cherry Mobile’s proprietary software on top of Android 7.0 Nougat. It’s the same Android skin found on the Flare S6 Plus, Flare S6, and Flare S6 Selfie.

The Desire R6 mini, the most affordable of the bunch, has a 4-inch, 854 x 480 display and a dual-core MediaTek 6570 processor with 512MB of RAM and 8GB of storage. The 1,400mAh battery that powers the assembly is equally modest.
