Whether or not you think the feature is revolutionary, there’s no denying that smartphones with wider aspect ratios are in vogue these days.

The trend has caught on and spread to even the bargain category, with the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi 5, OPPO A83, and Huawei Nova 2 Lite being three of the more popular choices around. But none of these phones compare to the screen ratio of the Oukitel U18.

Side by side: Oukitel U18 and Apple iPhone X

We previously wrote about this iPhone X clone on February 6, only back then it wasn’t available offline or online in the Philippines. It’s now up for purchase on Lazada Philippines, though there is no official seller listed on the retail platform.

The lack of official local distribution means no warranty coverage from the manufacturer will be offered here. Also note that since the device will be imported into the country, it may take a while before it arrives on your doorstep. If you don’t mind the waiting and the uncertainty, the lowest price we’ve come across on the site is P9,998 (roughly $192).

The cheapest Oukitel U18 we can find on Lazada Philippines.

Sporting a 21:9 LCD display, the Oukitel U18 has the widest we’ve seen yet. Nothing else on the local market comes close. At 5.85 inches, the screen is rather generous, but its pixel count doesn’t translate to full HD.

The notch at the top of the screen indicates you won’t be able to view videos or play games in full-screen mode when the U18 is held sideways. Support for all notch displays will arrive with Android P, Google’s next Android update after Oreo. Even so, the bezels on the sides and bottom look thin enough to provide an immersive experience, and that’s always a good thing.

Powering the smartphone is an older MediaTek 6750T processor with eight cores and 4GB of RAM to go along with 64GB of expandable storage. A 4,000mAh battery sits behind the device’s extra-tall display.

There are two cameras at the back of the Oukitel U18 — one provides depth information to the 16-megapixel main camera. They’re stacked vertically like those on the iPhone X. The selfie camera has 13 megapixels and touts face recognition, allowing you to unlock the handset without using the fingerprint sensor below the dual cameras.
