Xiaomi calls the Redmi S2 “the best Redmi phone for selfies.” And luckily for consumers in this selfie-crazy country, Xiaomi chose the Philippines as the first market outside of China to launch it, just as we predicted last week.

The Xiaomi Redmi S2 boasts a 16-megapixel front camera sensor with 2μm pixel size and an LED flash that mimics natural light, making it ideal for low-light conditions. It’s artificial intelligence-assisted, and AI Portrait and Beauty modes are standard.

The technology is advanced enough to detect which areas to blur, according to the company. That means even if your hand is near your hair when a selfie is taken, the system will not blur your hand. In Beauty mode, the system will focus on your makeup to make it pop.

At the rear is a 12-megapixel camera with 1.25μm pixel size paired with a 5-megapixel one for depth effect. Below the vertically arranged dual-rear-camera system is a fingerprint sensor that you can use to unlock the Xiaomi Redmi S2 if you don’t want to enable facial recognition.

The device’s screen measures 5.99 inches and is on-trend with its tall, 18:9 aspect ratio. It comes with a 3,080mAh battery and will ship with Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 9.0 out of the box.
