Leaked yet official-looking press renders of a new OPPO smartphone have been spotted on a Chinese website, along with a bunch of specs that the device in question may or may not include. According to the post, we’re supposed to be looking at the OPPO A5.

The phone shares a number of physical similarities with the OPPO F7, which starts at P17,990 (around $337) in the Philippines. If the specs are accurate, the A5 will probably sell for a lot cheaper than that, possibly even lower than the P13,990 ($263) OPPO F7 Youth.

Our guess is that it will be the company’s prime offering for the Philippines’ sub-P10,000 ($187) segment, for people pining for the F7 but simply can’t justify the expense of a mid-tier handset.

It helps that there’s a notch at the top of the screen, reportedly of the 720p variety and coming in at 6.2 inches — the same display area you’d find on the F7. It might house an 8-megapixel camera for shooting charming selfies, with the option to enhance the picture using OPPO’s signature beauty filter.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 is believed to be the platform of choice for the OPPO A5. It could be joined by 4GB of RAM and up to 64GB of storage. Considering many OPPO phones released this year run Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box, it’s highly likely that the A5 will also adopt the latest version of the world’s most popular operating system.

The back of the phone is where things take a turn for the interesting. Based on the leaks, the A5 will have a dual-lens solution for the main camera comprising a 13-megapixel and 2-megapixel one for portrait-style shots with satisfying background blur.

The backing itself appears to have an acrylic layer on top and has been patterned after the OPPO F7 and F7 Youth in the Diamond Black color option, except instead of black, the OPPO A5 could arrive in blue and soft-pink hues.
