Will the successor to the popular ASUS ZenFone Max M1 or ZenFone Max Pro M1 phone launch sooner than later? We think so. ASUS India has sent out invitations to a media event happening on October 17.

The invitation says to “gear up for the launch of our latest ZenFone,” which suggests a previously unheard of ASUS smartphone could be the topic of the day’s gathering.

Two upcoming ZenFones variants — the ASUS ZenFone Max M2 with model number ZB631KL and ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M2 with model number ZB633KL — have been recently spotted getting certification from Russia’s Eurasian Economic Commission or EEC. Think the TENAA in China or the FCC in the U.S. The listings on the certification website does not reveal the core specs of the ZenFone Max M2 and ZenFone Max Pro M2.

Or perhaps the company will announce the ASUS ZenFone Max Plus M1. It is currently on sale in countries like Malaysia, where it is priced at RM499 (around P6,507 or $120) after a price cut.

The specs of the phone include a 5.7-inch, 18:9 display; a MediaTek 6750T processor with 4GB RAM and 32GB ROM; and a 4,130mAh battery. It has dual 16-megapixel cameras on the back, one of which uses an extra-wide lens that delivers a 120-degree field of view. And the selfie camera is 16 megapixels, too.

Considering both the ASUS ZenFone Max M1 and ZenFone Max Pro M1 are already available in the Indian market, with the latter debuting in India first, it would make sense that ASUS would launch something new to the market. As there are no other clues in the invite, the possibilities are wide open. We’ll just have to wait and see in the next couple of days.

ASUS Philippines, on the other hand, will host a media gathering in November. Maybe we will also see whatever device — be it the ZenFone Max Plus M1, ZenFone Max M2, ZenFone Max Pro M2, or something else — the company unveils in India here?
