In Games, Apps, and OS by Ramon LopezLeave a Comment

Diablo 4 has finally been revealed at the annual Blizzard show, aka BlizzCon, this year, as previously rumored.

The latest title in the series has been heralded as a return to the darker roots of the first two games and revs it up with more blood and gore. It will follow a non-linear campaign set in an open world that you can explore at your own pace.

Trailer and gameplay video

Despite knowing for some time that Diablo 4 was coming, it was still nice to see its lengthy cinematic trailer at BlizzCon 2019. We also got gameplay footage that confirmed three playable classes: barbarian, druid, and sorcerer.

When will Diablo 4 be released?

There’s no date yet when we can expect the game to hit shelves and digital download. All we know now is that Diablo 4, like Diablo Immortal for mobile devices, won’t be releasing anytime soon.

Which platforms will Diablo 4 arrive?

Blizzard’s next installment for its hack-and-slash RPG is being developed for current-gen platforms including PC, Sony PlayStation 4, and Microsoft Xbox One. We still have no idea if the Switch will get a release, but Diablo 3 launched on Nintendo’s console last year, so there’s hope. However, it might be a long way down the road.

Will Diablo 4 have an offline mode?

Unfortunately, the answer is no. Similar to its predecessor, Diablo 4 will require an internet connection at all times to play.

So Diablo 4 is essentially an MMO?

Yes. The game takes place in an online shared open world populated by other players. So besides providing the player with equipment, towns serve as social hubs for chatting and teaming up to complete quests and defeat difficult monsters that spawn during world events. Diablo 4 will also bring back PvP zones.

The world map will feature five massive, contiguous regions. Fortunately, there are mounts to get around the world map faster. We’re not sure if all the dungeons in Diablo 4 are randomized or not, but we reckon they are.

Can you tell me more about character creation and classes?

In Diablo 4, players will be able to change how their base character looks. Players can also customize their mounts. There are three character classes confirmed so far. Blizzard describes each class as:

  • The Barbarian, known for their unparalleled strength and brutal melee combat, uses a new and more powerful system in battle, Arsenal, which arms them with the ability to carry and rapidly switch between four different weapons at a time by assigning them to individual attacks;
  • The Sorceress hearkens back to their Diablo 2 roots and shapes the elements to obliterate their foes by impaling them upon jagged spikes of ice, electrocuting them with bolts of lightning, or raining flaming meteors from the sky; and
  • The Druid is a savage shapeshifter whose updated playstyle empowers them to fluidly transform between werewolf, werebear, and human form to unleash the raw power of nature’s fury on the forces of the Burning Hells.
