Redmi K30: Everything we know ahead of its launch

We’re less than a week away from the December 10 launch of the Redmi K30 5G in China, and information keep pouring in — most of it we get from Redmi’s official account on Chinese social media platform Weibo.

(Update, December 10: The phone is official! Read Launched: Redmi K30 models headlined by cheapest 5G phone.)

One of the Xiaomi sub-brand’s latest teasers for the Redmi K30 5G show a vertically arranged, quad-camera setup that is emphasized by a ring design similar to what the Huawei Mate 30 Pro has.

Promotional pictures and video with Chinese actor Wang Yibo surfaced, giving us a peek at pink and purple variants of the phone. The Redmi K30 5G looks to have a more subdued matte finish than the Redmi K20‘s flashy, flame-like gradient. The glossy part of the phone is limited to the ring around the cameras. The recessed power button on the side serves as a fingerprint sensor, too.

The back of the handset shows a dual-LED flash module sitting below the camera with a 5G logo branding underneath the flash. The Redmi K30 5G has already been confirmed to support dual-mode 5G.

The phone, which some people have reportedly been calling the Redmi K30 Pro, will get a “world’s first high-resolution image sensor,” Redmi general manager Lu Weibing announced a few days ago. And the poster below confirms that it’s 64 megapixels, which a tipster says is the Sony IMX686 paired with a 12- or 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera, an 8-megapixel telephoto lens, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor.

In front, the Redmi K30 5G will come with a dual-camera setup housed in a punch hole. What isn’t confirmed are the sensors. Rumors claim a 32-megapixel main shooter with either a time-of-flight sensor for 3D facial recognition or an ultra-wide sensor.

A 4G version of the phone is expected to launch alongside the Redmi K30 5G. Leaked photos of the standard Redmi K30 show the same purple color option with dual front cameras. The difference is it will only have three cameras on the back.

The newly announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chip powers the Redmi K30 5G. The 4G model might pack in a Snapdragon 730G chipset.

The phones are expected to have Android 10 — customized by MIUI — out of the box with base storage at 64GB. They also look to have NFC connectivity, an IR blaster, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

Other Redmi K30 series key specs include a 6.67-inch screen with a 2,400 x 1,080 resolution and a 4,500mAh battery with support for 30-watt fast charging. The K30 5G might get a 120Hz refresh rate, while the standard K30 might have a 60Hz display.
