In case you’re not familiar, the MateBook D 15 is a reasonably priced midrange laptop powered by an AMD Ryzen 5 3500U processor and encased in an aluminum-alloy body, giving it a premium look and feel. The chassis is 16.9mm thick when closed and weighs 1.53 kilograms with a mechanical hard drive.

As the name suggests, this MateBook gets a 15.6-inch LCD display. It has a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080, a standard brightness of 250 nits, and a screen-to-body ratio of 87%. This means you’ll be able to see more content on the screen without scrolling down too much.

The bezels on the sides and top edge are pretty slim, too. It helps that the Huawei MateBook D 15 features a hidden HD camera between the F6 and F7 keys for privacy, as opposed to having a camera on the bezel above the screen.

In terms of connectivity, you get two USB 2.0 ports, one USB 3.0 port, and one USB-C port that supports fast charging, along with an HDMI connector and a 3.5mm headphone and microphone jack. Huawei will ship the MateBook D with a 65-watt power brick.

The touchpad is pretty large, but the full-size chiclet keyboard lacks backlighting. For added security, there’s a fingerprint reader embedded in the power button.

Meanwhile, the Ryzen 5 3500U CPU is bundled with Radeon 8 graphics and 8GB DDR4 RAM. The laptop comes in two storage variants — one with a 256GB SSD and 1TB HDD and one that holds a 256GB SSD without a mechanical drive. It runs Windows 10 Home out of the box.

The Huawei MateBook D 15 is priced at RM2,500 in Malaysia, where it was recently launched. That translates to around P31,323 or $615 converted.
